My Baby's gone was written by Ed and recorded many years ago for one of his "Sherlock Holmes" Christmas tapes. In those days, it was a reggae styled shuffle. But the Rickets were having none of that and decided to take it up to eleven.
The backing tracks were recorded at 5AM early into the Ricket sessions with Veg on bass, Bobby on drums, Alan singing guide vocals, and Ed on rhythm guitar. Ed laid down a lead part and the song was left alone for a while.
After the Abbey Road sessions, Ed laid down an organ part to fill out the track along with an attempt at backing vocals which were later scrapped. Keith Davis provided excellent lead guitar work on the track which was mixed by Les and Ed at 5AM.
