Rita Rita

Play it!

Lyrics

I called Rita on the telephone

I said Rita come on home

I don't think that I can live alone

Won't you meet me at the Pipeline

Take me back to Saturday night

You and I in love with each other

Dancing around with the lights real low

How could we be so blind?

Take me back to sit on your back porch

You and I entangled in love

Dancing around in the middle of nowhere

Why'd you have to leave me now?

Rita Rita come back to me yeah!

Make me feel like I have somebody

Meet be down at the pipeline

Listen to the rock and roll and dance all night

We'll keep on dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the sunshine

Baby it's not wrong to dance our lives away

Why don't you stay?

Rita Rita come back to me yeah!

Make me feel like I have somebody

Meet be down at the pipeline

Listen to the rock and roll and dance all night

I called Rita on the telephone

I said Rita come on home

I don't think that I can live alone

Won't you meet me at the Pipeline

Take me back to one drive in movie

I didn't see care if I'd seen it twice

Dancing around by the light of the late show

Never new that the music stopped

Rita Rita come back to me yeah!

Make me feel like I have somebody

Meet be down at the pipeline

Listen to the rock and roll and dance all night

This was one of the other tunes Alan presented as a candidate for the project. The earlier version was in a southern rock style, but of course, the Rickets had their own ideas - a psychedelic version!

The backing tracks were recorded with Veg on 12 string guitar, Ed on piano, Bobby on drums, Kaye on bass, and Alan providing a guide vocal. Veg laid down the sitar parts and the song was left alone for a while.

Ed added the tabla drums, synthesizer, hand claps, finger snaps, and tambourine during a later tracking session. Kaye and Ed added a first round of harmonies as well.

The Rickets added their own backing vocals during the post-Abbey Road, 5AM sessions. The final mix was done by Les and Ed at 5AM.
