The Loneliest Boy In The World

Play it!

Lyrics

I drive the streets at night looking for lovers

Picking out the ones I like but they got others

But there's got to be one lonely girl

Who will love the loneliest boy in the world

I fantasize in my heart some of the happiest days

I could love so many girls so many ways

But I'd settle for one lonely girl

Who would love the loneliest boy in the world

I must be the loneliest boy in the world

But I'd feel so wanted if I could just find one lonely girl

One day I'll hold in my heart the love of this girl

But until then I must be the loneliest boy in the world

Millions of people know love life is so sunny

But I cover up my broken heart by making love funny

I'll discover some sweet lonely girl

Who'll bring love to the loneliest boy in the world

My memories of love they've washed away with my tears

I've been lonely and lost without love for so many years

But there's got to be one lonely girl

To bring back love to the loneliest boy in the world

I must be the loneliest boy in the world

But I'd feel so wanted if I could just find one lonely girl

One day I'll hold in my heart the love of this girl

But until then I'm still the loneliest boy in the world

Alan and Veg wrote this song back when they wrote "Bang! Bang!" and "Take Me Home Tonight". Veg even recorded it as one of his solo cassette tape projects. Veg recommended it during the first get together of the newly reconstituted Rickets. It was good but Ed wanted something different for the bridge, so, he decided to rewrite it with input from Veg. The following session was used to work out the version you hear today.

The first recording was done with Bobby on drums, Ed on piano, Veg on guitar, and Alan providing a guide vocal. Alan went back to lay down the main vocal and a bass track was added by either Veg or Ed. Ed also recorded the vocals for the refrain. Veg added a second power chord guitar part and some lead licks at the end of the song. The Rickets got together to layer harmonies on the choruses and at the end. Veg added the coaching vocal part on the refrain.

At a later session Ed added in the organ part and created the reverse dream sequence at the start. Les and Ed mixed the final version at 5AM and added the alarm clock at the beginning.
